4th Alarm - 304 Midland Ave
Tuesday, March 1, 2011 13:00
-
60 Control Dispatched E58, E61, E63, R40, TL2 to a report of a structure fire at 304 Midland Ave. Upon Arrival 2393 reported a working fire. E60, PCRRBEMS and U65 were then dispatched to scene. 2393 then requested a 2nd alarm, bringing the full department to the scene of the fire and bringing in Mutual Aid to backfill stations.

Due to the fast progress of the fire(balloon frame construction), members were removed from the building and an exterior operation started. E-61 & E-63 supplied L-31,TL-2 & E-58 as well as deployed their deck guns in a bid to knock down the fire. E-60, E-62 & E-64 supplied the above units with additional water from a different water main as well as numerous hand lines.

Rye Brook L-30 assisted  with additional manpower prior to moving L-30 in the rear for ladder pipe operations.

A little over an hour into the fire, the rear of the building collapsed,or pancaked downward making for an extremely unstable workplace.  Thankfully all units had evacuated prior to this occuring.

The command-post was also set up and accountability was conducted throughout the duration of the incident.

Numerous additional departments assited at the scene,Town of Mamaroneck (fast team),Village of Mamaroneck (engine to pump), Larchmont (cascade), WCDES (Field-Comm,Cause and Orgin), WCDPS ( Air-3 Recon), Red Cross, PCEMS, PCPD, PCDPW, RPD, Purchase FD, Mamaroneck FD and W.HarrisonFD stood-by until units were released from the scene.

At about 5:00pm, 2391 declared fire under control and began releasing equipment, after they were packed up with the assistance of Post 700. Units stayed on scene througout the night and into the morning until the building was taken down at 0130hrs and scene was declared safe.

The Department should be commended for an outstanding job. The Fire consumed the original building, but due to the efforts of the members,it was stopped from spreading to the exposures on both sides, which were only 18 inches away on either side.

This was a fine example of the department working together to get the job done.

There were two minor injuries to firefighters of which the members were treated and released, we wish them a speedy recovery.

Monday, August 2, 2010
-
Members of E-62 responded to the request from Harrison FD,to relocate to HFD,due to the fact HFD was operating at a fully involved Tractor Trailer fire.

The trailer contained crushed junk cars which made fire suppression difficult. Water supply was an issue due to it's location on I-95,thus requiring all HFD engines, and the reason for the relocate.

After about an hour, the fire was under control and 62 was released..We thank all PCFD for their help.
